AutoTune my blog

A friend from work asked, “why haven’t you updated your blog?”

“oh yeah, I have a blog…”

So there has been something I wanted to blog about.. And that is the state of music today. Back in my day,

(crap, I’m too young for back in my day. I’m only in my 30s)

Back in my day, there was a thing called talent. Singers and musicians did something called perform. By performing, they created music. Also back then they would do some pitch correction in the studio, but it was a lot of work.

And then “in 1997, Antares Audio Technologies developed revolutionary pitch-correction software called Auto-Tune”

This allowed record companies to easily “fix” bad performances. This also allowed bad artists to sound as if they had talent. Example below:

Please note that this will be the first and last time I post Cher on my blog. Words I never thought I’d ever say.

So here we are today. Auto-tune isn’t something people are ashamed of anymore. Artists have embraced it and now it’s an art form.

The artist can’t sing? who cares.. We’ll fix it in post production.

Here’s the part that really gets me. Auto-tuning has gotten to the point where it’s so easy to make an artist. Now we have unintentional artists. Here’s what I mean.

There was an intruder to someone’s home. That person went into the bedroom of a girl. The girl screamed, and the brother came, and scared him away. He was explaining this to the local news crew. Here is the footage:

Now let’s auto tune it and add a beat..

The problem with this whole thing is that the song is catchy. And honestly, it’s as good as any of the other music in the genre. So good, that it’s on the Billboard top 100 and it was #3 on iTunes’s R&B charts. No joke. http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100#/charts/hot-100?begin=81&order=position

I honestly miss real musicians and vocalists. Singers like Carmen McCrae, Billie Holiday, and Ozzy would never use an auto-tuner.

That must be why I love this type of music:
